Little League Softball Spring/Summer Season

The Phase 2 re-opening of Connecticut, effective June 17 th, incorporated youth sports.  Parks and Rec has opened the fields so as of yesterday, we can “play ball”!!
The structure of the season i.e. length, number of teams, games etc. is still up in the air.  Our district has suggested we spend the next four weeks practicing and/or playing scrimmages amongst ourselves.  Games with other towns are still a possibility, but we are still a few weeks away from making that decision.

Safety concerns
Let me begin by saying none of the safety measures we plan to implement can offer 100% protection, as with anything in life.  That being said, softball practice is perfect for social distancing!  Our warmups consist of jogging and stretching in the outfield- so keeping 6ft distance is easy!  Playing catch with a partner- we will wipe the balls down before use and have hand sanitizer available before and after.  The skills we teach and the drills we run can also be accomplished with the players properly spaced out.
We must require players have their own equipment: gloves, cleats and facemasks (protective face cage, not cloth masks) in the field; helmets and bats for hitting.  If you do not have a piece of equipment, we will do our best to have extras on hand as we would like to avoid sharing equipment as much as possible.
Cloth face masks are not required so long as 6ft distancing can be maintained.
In summary, we want the kids to have a good time interacting with their friends, learning the game and engaging in a little competition- all while staying as safe as possible.

Please see forthcoming emails regarding schedules, safety guidelines, and locations.
